1. Hardware notes
-----------------

The Silicom DoubleSerial PCMCIA adapter has full support for Card Services
version 2.10, including automatic resources allocation. If you have a Card
and Socket Services software version less than 2.10, please contact your
computer or operating system manufacturer to receive an upgrade.

2. The Silicom Wizard system requirements
-----------------------------------------

We recommend that a disk cache program (SMARTDRV.EXE) and the mouse
driver are loaded before running the Wizard to speed up the installation
and file copying procedures.

Important! Make sure that your CONFIG.SYS file has "FILES=30" line. 30 is
the minimum value. Otherwise the Wizard will not be able to copy drivers
from the distribution diskette.

3. Installing Silicom DoubleSerial Support Driver manually
----------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT NOTE. THIS SECTION IS FOR EXPERIENCED USERS ONLY!
Using the Silicom Wizard program you can install and configure
the DoubleSerial Support Driver in a much easier and safer way.
This and the following sections describe manual installation and
the command line parameters of the Silicom DoubleSerial Support driver.

In order to work with the Silicom DoubleSerial PCMCIA adapter, you need
to install the DoubleSerial Support Driver. Add the following line to your
CONFIG.SYS file (after the Card Services drivers, if any):

      DEVICE = path\S2SDRV.EXE  [parameters]

The Silicom DoubleSerial Support Driver may also be loaded from the DOS command
prompt or from a batch file:

      path\S2SDRV.EXE [parameters]

Without command line parameters, the driver uses default or auto-configured
settings. To customize the driver's settings, use the following
syntax:

      S2SDRV [/irq=x] [/ints1=x] [/ints2=x] [/mem=x] [/ios1=x] [/ios2=x]
             [/socket=x] [type=x] [/base=x] [/fast=x] [/direct] [/eightbit]
             [/unload] [/help]

The full list of the parameters is described in the following section of
this document.

IMPORTANT ! Incorrect use of parameters may result in faulty
operation of the PCMCIA adapter. Make sure you are familiar with the
different parameters before using them.

5. The Silicom DoubleSerial Support Driver parameters

Using the Silicom Wizard program you can install and configure
the DoubleSerial Support Driver in a much easier and safer way.

͸
  Keyword RangeDef. Description
͵
irq * 2-F 0A Specifies the IRQ interrupt line for the adapter
Ĵ
ints1 2-F auto Specifies the 1st COM port interrupt. The default
is the associated COM port interrupt (3 or 4).
Ĵ
ints2 2-F auto Specifies the 2nd COM port interrupt. The default
is the associated COM port interrupt (3 or 4).
Ĵ
mem *D000-D000 Specifies the segment of RAM where the adapter
DC00 will map its attribute (flash) memory.
Ĵ
ios1 auto auto Specifies the 1st COM port I/O base address.
The default value is the standard COM port address
                     for unused COM port.
Ĵ
ios2 auto auto Specifies the 2nd COM port I/O base address.
The default value is the standard COM port address
                     for unused COM port.
Ĵ
socket * 0,1 auto Specifies the host computer PCMCIA slot where the
                     adapter is inserted.
The use of this parameter disables socket auto
                     detection by the driver.
Ĵ
type 0-4 0 Specifies the type of the host computer PCMCIA
controller. The types currently defined are:
0 - Auto detection of the PCMCIA controller type
                        1 - Intel 365SL PCIC compatible controller
2 - Databook TCIC compatible controller
                        3 - Socket Services software
                        4 - Card & Socket Services software
Other values are reserved and must NOT be used.
Ĵ
base *auto auto Specifies the base I/O address of the host computer
PCMCIA controller. May be used only for a PCMCIA
controller with non-standard I/O address settings.
Ĵ
eightbit * n/a n/a Specifies 8-bit width I/O operations for the
PCMCIA adapter. It should be used only for PCs
that have an 8-bit (instead of 16-bit) PCMCIA
                     bus interface.
For example, you need to use this keyword with the
Grid 2260 and AST PenExec computers.
Ĵ
fast * 0,1 0 Add additional I/O wait states if non-zero value
is specified. This parameter is required by some
computers that have a fast I/O bus.
Ĵ
direct n/a n/a Use direct enabler, ignore Card Services software.
This parameter should NOT be used normally. It's
                     for debugging purposes only.
Ĵ
unload n/a n/a Unload the Support Driver from the memory.
May be used only with the driver that was loaded
from the DOS command prompt or from a batch file.

NOTE. The parameters marked with '*', may or will be ignored, if Card
Services software is loaded.
